Economist Trainee 1, G-13
Accounting, Auditing, Economics and Finance
As an Economist Trainee 1, you would conduct surveys including: devising approaches for obtaining information, assisting in selection of samples, and providing facts and information required in the administration of various governmental programs. You would conduct difficult economic research and analysis on a wide range of technical subjects. You would collect information and assemble and write comprehensive analyses on such subjects as general business and industrial trends, markets, prices, housing, employment, milk marketing, banking, population and labor market trends and issues.
Trainees will receive a combination of structured training, on-the-job training, and/or practical job performance to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to function at the full performance level.
You must meet the requirements below to qualify for this title.
A bachelor's or higher degree including or supplemented by 18 semester credit hours in economics; AND 6 semester credit hours in computer science, economics, econometrics, mathematics, operations research, research methods, and/or statistics.
Most employees will be appointed to the Trainee 1 job title.
Appointments to this job title require a two-year traineeship that starts at the Trainee 1, G-13, and advances, after one year of acceptable performance, to Trainee 2, G-14. After one year of acceptable performance as a Trainee 2, employees advance to the Senior Economist, G-18, job title described above. No further Civil Service examination is required for advancement from Trainee 1 to Trainee 2, or from Trainee 2 to the full Senior Economist.
Advanced Placement Appointments - For most trainee titles, employees may be able to be appointed directly to the Trainee 2 level or to the full performance title if they meet certain qualifications. This is known as advanced placement and is at the discretion of the hiring agency. You must have or expect to receive a bachelor's or higher degree by September 1, 2020.
The 2019 PCO will be open for application from January 18, 2019. To apply for the examination for this PCO Select Job Title you must apply for the PCO examination by February 20, 2019, fill out and submit the PCO Questionnaire by April 5, 2019, and take the PCO written test in April of 2019.
