Laboratory Specialist Trainee 1, G-13

Laboratory Specialists perform a wide range of laboratory sampling, testing, data collection, and analysis activities to advance scientific research and development in specialized fields. Employees use a variety of laboratory techniques and equipment; coordinate laboratory testing and research activities; and/or direct specialized laboratory programs. These positions are located in the Department of Health.
Trainees will receive a combination of structured training, on-the-job training, and/or practical job performance to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to function at the full performance level.

You must meet the requirements below to qualify for this title.
a bachelor's or higher degree in bacteriology, biochemistry, biological science, biology, chemical science, chemistry, environmental biology, environmental science, environmental studies, environmental toxicology, genetics, medical technology, microbiology, molecular biology, or natural science.
Most employees will be appointed to the Trainee 1 job title.
Appointments to this job title require a two-year traineeship that starts at the Trainee 1, G-13, and advances, after one year of acceptable performance, to Trainee 2, G-14. After one year of acceptable performance as a Trainee 2, employees advance to the Laboratory Specialist 1, G-18, job title described above. No further Civil Service examination is required for advancement from Trainee 1 to Trainee 2, or from Trainee 2 to the Laboratory Specialist 1.
Advanced Placement Appointments - For most trainee titles, employees may be able to be appointed directly to the Trainee 2 level or to the full performance title if they meet certain qualifications. This is known as advanced placement and is at the discretion of the hiring agency. You must have or expect to receive a bachelor's or higher degree by September 1, 2020.
The 2019 PCO will be open for application from January 18, 2019. To apply for the examination for this PCO Select Job Title you must apply for the PCO examination by February 20, 2019, fill out and submit the PCO Questionnaire by April 5, 2019, and take the PCO written test in April of 2019.
