The New York State Department of Civil Service provides technical advice, guidance, and direct services to the 95 municipal civil service agencies across New York State on a wide range of merit system administration and human resource management issues.
Our role is to provide centralized, cost-effective technical assistance to the 95 local civil service agencies necessary for them to meet their responsibilities under the New York State Constitution and the Civil Service Law. We are the primary contact for the State Civil Service Commission in dealing with local government on a wide spectrum of civil service and personnel-related issues.
