Definitions of Search Fields
- Agency
Indicates where the position(s) are located. A value of XXXXX means that the positions exist in more than one agency.
- Title Code
The first two digits of a title code identify the occupational group to which the title belongs (e.g., 04 for Accounting & Auditing positions). These two numbers are the most important when doing a search using a partial title code.
- Title
Full or partial words in either upper or lower case.
- Jurisdictional Class
Positions in the Classified Service are divided into four classes: competitive (0), non-competitive (1), labor (3) and exempt (2). Jurisdictional classification refers to the placement of a position in one of these four classes. Pending non-competitive (6) or exempt (7) refers to the temporary placement of a position in these classes before final approval.
- Salary Grade
The Title and Salary Plan does not use the M-grades. To find titles that are allocated at M-5, for example, you must use 65.

For example, if you want all titles between grades 13 and 17, you would put greater than or equal to 13 in the Salary Grade field and less than or equal to 17 in the (Optional) Salary Grade field.
- Negotiating Unit
The bargaining unit representing positions in the title or class. A Management Confidential designation means that the positions are not represented by a union.
- Standard Number
The Standard Number is a seven digit number that is the same as the Title Code for a title or the Title Code for the lowest level title in the series. Follow the instructions for Title Code above.
- Job Level
Indicates the duration or performance level of positions in a class.
- FOC
(Federal Occupation Code) indicates the primary occupation grouping to which a class is assigned for reporting purposes, as defined by the federal government.

The CC1A tag designates titles of positions that can be requested using the short form classification process.
- Decentralization Level
"U" indicates that a title is "universally" decentralized. Positions in such titles can be established by all authorized agencies.
"S" indicates that a title is a "specifically" decentralized for certain agencies, typically those that have or had positions in the title in the previous 12 months of the date of the request.
Transactions in "U" and "S" decentralized titles will be automatically approved if the standard attributes (e.g., Salary Grade, Jurisdictional Class and Negotiating Unit) of the titles are requested and the transactions meet all other conditions for the requested agency.
- Duties Only
Indicates the amount of documentation required by NYSTEP to process a transaction. A Yes value means that only a duties description is required. Agencies, however, should attach all relevant documents to fully explain the request.
- Effective Date
The date the first position in the title became active.
- Peace/Police
Powers set forth in section 2.20 of Criminal Procedure Law for individuals in the title.
- 52.6
Positions in the title have been declared "administrative" in accordance with Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
