Subject: Medicare Reimbursement for Dependent Survivors During the Extended Benefit Period
PURPOSE:
Determine Medicare Part B premium reimbursement for dependent survivors during the Extended Benefit Period.
BACKGROUND
Upon the death of a retiree, the enrollee's covered dependents continue NYSHIP coverage for the three month Extended Benefit Period.
POLICY
Participating Agency HBAs are instructed to provide Medicare Part B premium reimbursement to dependent survivors who receive primary coverage from Medicare during the Extended Benefits Period. Dependent survivors of State and Participating Employer enrollees who receive primary coverage from Medicare will be reimbursed for Medicare Part B premium during the Extended Benefits Period.
