Subject: Eligibility of Dependent Survivors of COBRA Enrollees
PURPOSE:
Determine if survivors of deceased COBRA enrollees are eligible for dependent survivor coverage.
BACKGROUND
There are cases in which COBRA enrollees become deceased. This policy memo addresses the benefits available to dependents of such COBRA enrollees.
POLICY
Survivors of deceased COBRA enrollees are not eligible for NYSHIP Dependent Survivor status. Such survivors are entitled to the remainder of their 36 total months of COBRA coverage.
